I am going to be starting my student teaching experience in the fall, and yes I am both highly excited and scared out of my mind, all at the same time. What I am hoping to get out of this blog is a place to organize my thoughts, share my experiences, share resources, and get advice. I hope this blog will be read by many teachers who will also share their experiences, and gain helpful tips from my failings and triumphs.
Why do I want to be a teacher? What was my Ah-Ha! Moment? I was asked this during my first class of my program. I did not know then, I had yet to have my Ah-Ha! Moment. That moment when you just know that what you are doing is right and what you should be doing with your life. But I have since experienced many moments like this during my clinicals and practicum teaching. I figure as I love reading and writing, I love talking about reading and writing, and I love kids, why not combine all three into a career I would get paid for while being very fulfilling?
I hope to be an effective teacher, one who is well received and who can really make a difference in my students' lives. I want to show my future students how much fun reading can be, the worlds it can open up. To help them find their voice through writing, to be able to express themselves to the world. I want to show them how to use technology to further their place in the world, and how to continue learning for the rest of their lives. A good teacher imparts knowledge well, a great teacher shows students how to find that knowledge themselves in a way that they can do it for the rest of their lives.
Here I will tell you about my successes and failures. My experiments, and my own learning. I will tell you great tips, and ask for advice. In the end, with this blog, I aim to not feel alone in my teaching, and to connect with others who may know more or just want to talk about their own experiences in teaching.
